Brand new teaching and childcare program at an orphanage in Cape Town

GVI has recently partnered with an up and comming orphanage in Nomazamo township and we are very excited to start recruiting volunteers to help us start up an educare centre in this quaint children's home in the heart of one of the townships near Cape Town.

The children's home currently has 29 children ranging from 0-8 years in age and the staff at the home are very excited for GVI volunteers to come and help them implement this educational program which will enhance the developement and self confidence of their children.

Although the children's home has grown from only 14 children who had been taken in by " Mama Lumka" in her modest home in the township, to the quaint village it is today with vegetable gardens, chickens and 4 houses with 8 happy children and a carer in each house. There is currently no educational program in place as the staff are far to busy with the general day to day running of the home to find the time to put together and implement educational activities for their younger children.

The home also aims to have built an extra 3 houses by the end of the year which will mean they will have up to 54 children living in the village who will all be needing educational enhancement.

Volunteers can expect to play games, take part in outdoor games, get their hands dirty with lots of arts and crafts activities and have fun with music, drama and story telling to help these children develop in areas of gross and fine motor co ordination, speech and imaginative play.

In addition to being an extremely worthwhile and fulling program the children's home is situated close to most of the beautiful sites the Cape has to offer so you can spend your free time on weekends exloring Table Mountain, Robben Island, Cape Point and the penguins or just take some time out on the beautiful beaches in the area.
