Bowy House and The Penguins

I arrived in Paarl almost 2 weeks ago along with 4 other volunteers.  We hail from all corners of the world:  Australia, Germany, England and the U.S.  Together we became acquainted with Paarl and learned about our assigned projects.
I was assigned to Bowy House with the Penguins.  The Penguins consist of two lovely girls;2 ½ year old Siya and 3 year old Onele.  Siya and Onele bring joy to my days at Bowy House and to all those who encounter them.  Siya is shy and reserved and is just learning English.  She aims to please and looks to Onele as an older sister.  Siya takes her lead from Onele and mimics all that she does.  Onele amazes me everyday with her intelligence and wit.  Her English is amazing.  Most of the volunteers at one time or another have experienced Onele's quips such as “Thank you Darling” or “Goodbye girlfriend”.
Bowy House is a refuge and a home for these children where they can feel the love and support that they all deserve.  We volunteers come from around the world to share our gifts and talents with those who are in need. It is quickly apparent that the children give us more that we can ever strive to give them.  Each of us leave a mark at Bowy House but the children will remain in our hearts forever.
