By the way... we have signed you up to run a half marathon
Last December I ran a half marathon to raise funds for the Cape Town community programs. At the end of the year when I headed off to Kenya, I wasn’t at that point expecting to be coming back, let alone be running another one again quite so soon. But when I heard that they were planning to run one on the 2nd May, I wasn’t really surprised to find that they had signed me up.
There are four of us in the GVI Cape Town Marathon Team – Shayle Havemann, Kate Davis, Nick Herrick, and myself. We are running to raise funds for the new Hope Edu-care Centre in the Westlake community. This is a new pre-primary centre which is entirely funded by the GVI Charitable Trust with the primary goal of getting kids off the street and into a positive, constructive learning environment. As it is free for children to attend, it means that we can help the poorest children in the community. In addition to the educational side of a day with us, we also provide them with at least two meals. For a large number of them, this may be the only significantly nutritional meal they may have that day.
For more information about this project, as well as the opportunity to donate towards this cause, please follow this link - http://www.justgiving.com/Will-Frost We really need all the help we can get, so even if you can only contribute a small amount, it all counts and would be truly appreciated.
So the day is now here and how has my training been going? Well... it’s been a bit sporadic. A few early morning runs and a few late afternoon ones, interrupted by a trip out of the country last week, it has been difficult to get into a proper rhythm. However, I am feeling confident, as are we all, that we will be putting in a solid team performance. Keep your eye on this blog for we will shortly be updating you with news of our results. Wish us luck!
