ACJ Library Update

The 18th September library day is fast approaching and plans are well underway for putting everything into place to create the library space at ACJ.

In order to have a big push for books as we have a rather large target to hit, we have arranged a Bring and Braai event for Saturday 10th September. We are asking everyone who attends to bring at least three second hand or new books and in return we will provide a braai, some music and a great atmosphere!

Tomorrow, volunteers will be heading out around the local area to spread the word, so we are now just keeping our fingers crossed that the weather holds and is great on Saturday!

We have had many generous donations from a number of sources- libraries, schools, individuals and businesses and are in the process of collecting some more that are coming in- people have been so generous and enthusiastic about helping out.

So far we have hundreds of books waiting to be catalogued to be ready to fill the shelves and inspire the children of ACJ.  Our target is in reach but we still have a way to go until we can be sure we have enough books.

The day itself will be a riot of activity with around 50 people descending on the school to clean, paint, saw, and hammer and to categorise books and create a welcoming environment.  Mama Lumka’s Sanctuary is kindly hosting us all for lunch and at the end of the day we hope to arrange a small football match to round things off, though we all may be too exhausted to even contemplate such a thing!

We are also collecting donations to buy books, resources and materials in country as this is a great way to make sure we are contributing to the local economy, so if you are interested in helping out, this would be a perfect way to do so.  Please visit our just giving page- www.justgiving.com/acj-library-day

Keep an eye on this space as our next update will be after the Bring and Braai and I am looking forward to letting you know how it goes!
