Bring and Braai

At a traditional South African Bring and Braai (BBQ to all you non South Africans out there) you bring your own meat which then gets put on the braai and everyone shares their food. Our braai on the 10th September was a little bit different.
Our aim was to collect as many books as possible to add to the growing collection for the ACJ library, so we asked everyone who came to bring books instead of food to our braai. In return, we provided the food, some music and a great afternoon in the sun.

We had a great band – Icon- who played for a good couple of hours and set a great atmosphere with their chilled out mix of music. Brian Schmaltz played afterwards and maintained the relaxed vibe with some great music on the keyboard.

Everyone who came brought a large selection of books to pay for their meal and I am happy to report that we collected around 450 books for the library which is absolutely fantastic and is a testament to everyone’s generosity. People who were unable to come on the day have also been getting in touch to drop off books, so our word spreading has definitely been doing the trick!

With September 18th fast approaching, there is still a lot to organise and get into place but we are all really looking forward to revamping the neglected space and turning it into an area that will be well used and well loved.

Please check back for our next update, post library day when holes will be filled, walls will be painted, posters will be mounted, and books will be catalogued and shelved and the library a different place!
