Beth Signs Up for Charity Challenge!

I’ll do it...call me crazy but I think this could be fun!

I’ve just joined the Cape Town Staff Team for the Charity Challenge, which originally included just Nick and Jim. Yes, I am well aware they are marathon runners, don’t ask me why I thought it was a good idea to join them!

We’ll be travelling from Cape Aguhlas, the southernmost tip of Africa, through Hermanus during breathtaking whale season, along the coast to Gordon’s Bay (where I do expect the rest of the staff team to be waiting with refreshments, and of course a well needed massage). We’ll be travelling across to Fish Hoek, down to Cape Point then finally the last leg through beautiful Kirstenbosch up to the top of Table Mountain in Cape Town.  All this in 5 days, oh and one last thing, there is no motorised transport allowed. Yes, we will be doing this on foot, bike, kayak, sail boat and anything else that will get us there along the way. 

Of course we wouldn’t be putting ourselves through this without an incredible cause behind it. Funds raised from the Charity Challenge will be used to develop the houses at Ikhayalethemba into a school. This involves completely stripping the houses and removing and putting up walls to make the most of the space and allowing it to cope with the physical and educational needs of up to 30 children.  The renovation will also allow for a much needed special needs therapy and sensory room.

The funds will also go towards the Hope Centre in West Lake in purchasing a converted shipping container and provide extras for turning it into a much more positive learning environment than the current classrooms. Both great causes and have a very special place in my heart.

I’m in the process of rounding up some more team members to join Hazel, Nick, Jim and myself on this adventure. It will be a lot of hard work – hence the “challenge” but along the way we are sure to have plenty of fun.
