Charity Challenge 2012
2011 Challenge team
Following
the success of last year’s challenge we at GVI Cape Town are doing another challenge.
Last year we raised over £10,000 by
putting a team of volunteers through a grueling five days of cycling and hiking covering 350km.
That team received phenomenal support all the way from other GVI members in
South Africa and also from friends and family back home.
Our team expanded to 60 people in our final
day’s climb of Table Mountain.
This year
we are tackling the Hoerikwaggo trail. An 80km hike from Cape Point to the top
of Table Mountain. We are setting
ourselves the challenge of doing it in just 3 days! Once again a small core
team will pit themselves against the full trail but they will be joined by as
many others as possible for the final day.
We are also
running a community event at ACJ Primary School in Nomzamo. It’s based around getting the local children
active. The school has around 2000 children but it is currently being
renovated. There is little space for the students to play in
around the school, and this impacts on our space for Sports lessons too. The sports lessons we run as part of the Cape Town Sports
project struggle for resources as well as space. Some of funds raised by this
challenge will go towards sports
resources and somewhere safe to store them.
