Let's get creative

This past week the students at ACJ have been taking their end of year exams so as you can imagine our program has been somewhat disrupted. The volunteers and I decided the classroom could do with a change and came up with a fantastic plan to redecorate the GVI classroom with some fresh posters, designs and a lick of paint.

The week started with a massive clean of the walls and drawing our designs for the alphabet and the reading corner. Tuesday saw the girls and I go on a massive shopping spree at the mall to get all the materials we needed for the week ahead. We would like to thank all the volunteers for donating money into the pot which allowed us to buy everything we needed and more for the classroom.

We soon cracked on with the painting; my project for the week was to design and paint the reading corner, I took characters from the popular books from our library including my personal favourite Paddington and created a scene which has given some focus and character to the room. We even got the kids involved and had them design and decorate the posters for the wall, Sithandile has made a great body poster with all the labels and signed it so he has definitely made his mark!. It has been a massive achievement for all involved and has made a real difference to the learning environment. There are vibrant colours, educational material, order and a great sense of fun in the classroom, it was a team effort and the volunteers should be proud of their work thank you again to everyone for working so hard and doing such an amazing job!
