Happy Birthday Kiddies Corner!
Today we celebrated the 4th birthday of the Kiddies Corner Educare in Masiphumelele.
We took the children to the local library to watch a film, or to be more specific parts of Shrek 1 and 2, and then walked them back to the nursery to be met by local supporters from Woolworths, amongst other places. They had brought cake, sweets, crisps, juice and a dangerously fluorescent liquid labeled “pine yellow” which might have been a drink but might also have been some sort of cleaning agent. We decided not to test it.
As with Mandela Day it was really nice to see that these people were not just doing this as a one-off but were fully intending to come back regularly and to be a genuine support to Patricia and the wonderful work that she is doing. Without helpers like this she could not keep going and the groups that come in and out during the week are testament to the goodness of human nature and the willingness to help their own community, whether it is local or global.
Patricia was, as always, delighted to have so many guests and friends wishing her well. The people there to help were equally pleased to watch the children merrily feasting. The knowledge that we had to try and get them to sleep after so much sugar may have put a slight downer on it for us, but it is hard not to enjoy watching kids that are so happy… and the cake was very good.
Happy Birthday Kiddies Corner! Here’s to many more!
