The Wendy House

Monday morning brought the first downfall of rain in four weeks, and anyone who has spent time at Ikhayalethemba knows just how much of a challenge it is when it rains.  There is no outdoor play and the grand jungle gym is off limits.  We are although lucky enough to have the play room to use during wet weather.

This Monday came the introduction of our biggest most colourful toy yet…a giant Wendy House.  After much anticipation the Wendy House was delivered in many pieces to Ikhayalethemba for me to assemble. Now I’ve never built a house before, but between you and me, I think I build a pretty good one!  The big blue screws aligned perfectly with the four walls and lovely windowsills, and the doors swing gracefully when not yanked by a 3 year old!
But you know what the best part of building this house was? The look on Athule’s face when she saw the new toy…it didn’t look as much fun when it was in a hundred pieces on the floor. But when she walked into the playroom and there in all its glory was a grand old Wendy House, I’ve never seen such wide eyes!

The kids at Ikhayalethemba have all taken a liking to the house, and it’s all thanks to one wonderful lady who donated the funds to buy the house through the Charitable Trust. Yes Linda, as per your request, it’s as sturdy as a rock, in fact Nick did a very scientific test on it when we were looking at display models, so you can be assured the children have a wonderful new play house, so a very big thank you to you Linda Cross!
