From animals to children!

Having worked with GVI on a wildlife conservation program before, I arrived in Gordon’s Bay with a very nervous approach. Animals and children can be similar in a few ways but my experience with children was a blunt zero. This is one of the plus sides of GVI; you don’t need experience to help. After being here for four weeks I decided to stay an extra four, two of these weeks have been spent in ACJ primary school on the one to one teaching program. I have taught Grade 6 Numeracy and it was fantastic! Feeding 12-14year olds maths equations and coming back the next day to find they have absorbed everything you told them the day before is incredible. The kids were very engaging and the afternoon workshops were also great fun.
Yesterday we encouraged the kids to learn about countries, and drew face paint of flags on their faces. We put music on and all of them danced endlessly for over an hour. Two weeks is clearly too shot, as I have already decided to return in the near future.
