Dance Club Continues

This week was especially exciting for the ACJ dance club! After the students requested a ballroom dance unit last week, we have since recruited  two more boys for partner purposes and an ACJ grade six teacher to teach and lead the ballroom dance lessons!
This is quite a change from the Michael Jackson theme and so far it seems that the students are really enjoying it. It is clear that they greatly look up to their new coach, which made our first session incredibly productive.  We worked on the basics of the Rumba , splitting up the boys and girls to teach them their respective parts.
The students did really well, picking up the moves quite quickly and even partnering up at the end to give it a go. It is so great to see the students’ excitement around learning a new dance style, as their success last term has given them the confidence they need to take on this new challenge.
For next week, our new coach has offered to organise a ballroom CD fit with Xhosa tunes that the students will be familiar with. She seems to be quite keen on her new role which is so wonderful for the long term sustainability of the team.
All in all, we are off to a great start this term and I can’t wait to see the progress we will continue to make during my last few weeks here with GVI!
